Approved by Guangdong Provincial Government, established by the joint efforts of South China Normal University and the Government of Nanhai District,Nanhai College(campus)of South China Normal University is a new type of university which is operated with a new mode and a new system. The establishment of Nanhai College of SCNU realizes the goal of jointing advantages of famous university and well-developed economic region. It is a success of operation between higher educational university and local government.

Taking advantages of scientific research of SCNU and the economic development of Nanhai District, Nanhai College is developing along with the road of “Joint Education and serving society”. In order to cultivate excellent undergraduates for our province and Nanhai District and to provide special talents for Guangdong economic development, the college focuses on developing and setting up practical disciplines and specialties.

For three years since the college was founded, the college has taken the good teaching traditions and experience of South China Normal University and kept developing rapidly with an innovative spirit according to the requirements of “to be stronger, bigger, newer and with our characteristics”. With more than 6,300 students, there are 12 undergraduate specialties and 13 junior education college specialties in Nanhai College. Some graduate specialties are still yet to be set up according to the development plan of the college.

With the support from the main campus, Nanhai College brings in talents from all over the country, now a stable staff team with good qualification and strong abilities has been founded, and 68.4% of the staff has got upper intermediate academic titles. At the same time, the college has engaged some famous experts and scholars to be part-time professors and part-time lecturers.

The college is well equipped with advanced teaching and scientific research facilities. Now, a high-grade Internet network has been set up in the campus, which enables teachers and students of Nanhai College to share the library resources of the main Campus. Internet access has been connected into every office, every student’s dormitory, and every classroom and library of the college. Nowadays, every 4.4 teachers and students possess a computer in the college; this computer possession rate is in the front rank among colleges in Guangdong Province.

After three years construction and development, Nanhai College has formed its scale. With praises from society to Nanhai campus, the teaching quality of the college is being improved steadily. In 2002, Nanhai College as one of the three campuses of SCNU, successfully passed the evaluation of the National “Project 211” carried out by an expert team from the project. Our students obtained successive successes in the “Provincial Computer Test for Non-Computer Majors” and in the “National Practical English Proficiency Test” in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

With the joint efforts of all staff, we have made encouraging achievement in the fields of teaching management, administrative management and student management. Now, a good studying atmosphere and school morale are forming. With the fame of Nanhai College of SCNU becoming increasingly established, our brand is going from strength to strength and the college is becoming a bright star of South China Normal University.
